Elder's Quorum BBQ
After Olivia tried to help Chloë into the pool, this was close enough for Chloë.
The only thing left for our busy week was Daniel teaching on Sunday.
After Olivia tried to help Chloë into the pool, this was close enough for Chloë.
One of Daniel's best friends (Casey below) from BYU computer science program moved with his family to Livermore, about 45 minutes from here. We are so glad they are around.
As we are thinking of our 4th and last baby's name, I thought I would share how I/we came up with our other children's names. (thanks Kaylene:))
All my life I wanted to name my first girl Michael, but Daniel didn't like agree. So I had to come up with something else. I was laying in bed one night about 3 months pregnant and thought Liv was a cute nickname. No I am not a groupee of Liv Tyler. So Olivia came to me. I really loved it. Daniel thought is was alright. Most people I told did not like it, until I actually named my baby Olivia. Then they loved the name! It turns out, nation wide it was the 5th most popular name for 2003. Oddly, we have not met any other Olivia her age. Of course, her middle name would be Michael.
Boy names were really hard for us. They need to be strong and stable sounding. . .you know something that would look good on the side of a building. 'Samuel Ledemsa & Associates'. Daniel really liked the name Ammon. I want my child to be known for who he is, not that he was named after a Book of Mormon hero. It is the same idea as Jonah, a name I like, but one would think of being eaten by a big fish. So Ammon and Jonah were out. I can't exactly remember, but I guess we liked names like William, Charles and Thomas, but Samuel was what we chose. His middle name is Lloyd, my mom's dad's name and Daniel's mom's mom's brother.
Chloë was the hardest to name. I did not really love anything like I loved Olivia's name, so I told Daniel to decide. I guess he did not believe me b/c we left the hospital naming her Elouise Edelman. I did not want to name my boy Louis after Daniel's dad b/c most of Daniel's siblings with a boy had done that. I wanted to name my girl some form of Louis and call her Loula. (That is what Lou called himself sometimes-and I liked that.) Edelman was my dad's mom's maiden name. My dad always spoke so highly of his mother. I think she must have been an angel and a saint to guide and love my dad through his crazy childhood. Elouise Edelman did not stick. At her one week check up the nurses could not even pronounce her name "E-low-iz???" Plus her initials would have been EEL. I couldn't call her Elouise, it just wasn't her. So then Daniel rushed to the hospital to change her name to Amelia Zoe. My dad's side of the family has a Parmelia, then a Pamelia, so we thought Amelia would fit the trend. Zoe was a take on the mom's mom's mom, Azola. But instead of calling her Zoe I started calling her Chloë. I told Daniel this after a few weeks. He had always liked the name Chloë so we decided to do all the paperwork and go to court to change her name to Chloë Elizabeth Michael. Elizabeth is Daniel's only sister's name and I would like all my girls to carry my middle name (and dad's name) Michael. It was a big headache and a few too many pennies to change her name, but I am glad we did it. She is such a Chloë!
If this last baby would have been a boy here are some names I like. Xander (Alexander), Graydon, Nolan or Jackson, not so traditional, but hey not too made up, right??
But this is a girl, so we are back to the drawing board. We are pretty set on the name Charlotte, which is what I tell people her name is, but I am always thinking of something better. Olivia likes the name Phoebe, but I finally broke it to her we would not be using that name. I still am drawn to the idea of some form of Louis, but have not found the right name. This week some names I like: Michael Jayden (MJ), Ruby, Savannah, Naomi, Gwyneth, Joise-but not Josephine. Daniel really likes the name Audrey, but I like Aubrey. So the list goes on and on!
We went to the beach for a few hours in the morning. Daniel took the kids on a short walk to watch some big trucks move seaweed off the shore. On the way back Sambo was scared by a wave and stayed far away from the water the rest of the morning.
Chloe liked the sand once she was use to it.
It was a peaceful morning. The sun did come out, but it was breezy.
On Friday I went to my doctors appointment and learned that the bites were giving me hives. The dermatologiest prescribed me two pills and an ointment. I really liked him. I am going to take Sambo to see him next month at my follow-up visit. I am hoping he can help solve Sambo's skin problem.
I called a friend who does pest control and told him of our situation. After answering a bunch of his questions, he determined the following. We had mice, they had parasites, Exterminator Dan got rid of the mice, the parasites wanted someone to feed off of, so they found us. It does make perfect sense to us. Daniel and I have never seen any bugs, so we were not sure what was bitting us. Our friend said he was come spray the garage and the entire outside of the house. I hope that does the trick!
After my doctor appointment (during my apt. Mandy and Kelli watched my kids! - thanks friends) we (Kaylene and Kelli) went to Kelli's house and to make fried egg rolls, won tons and fried rice. Kelli's house was cool and I was so distracted with cooking that my bites did not bother me as much.
Saturday night Daniel and I invited Candice, Jen, Kaylene, Kelli, and Mandy and their husbands and all their kids over to play. We had a babysitter come and they were banished to the back part of the house. Then we adults ate and ate and played games. We had such a nice time. I am so glad we had everyone over. Even if the kids went to be bed late!
This has been a bad week for sleeping! Let's just say it how it really is. The weather has been very hot. 90 may not seem hot to all Arizona natives, but that is hot when you have no air conditioning, you are pregnant and cover in bug bites that get inflamed when you get hot. More importantly, because of the hot weather the kids have not been sleeping so well, which means either Daniel or I did not sleep well. Normally that would not be a problem, but with all these bug bites, I can't fall back asleep once wakened! Consequently, I have been awake since 4am and yesterday night was not much better! I am going to a dermatologist this afternoon to find out what kind of bites these are. Then we are having pest control come out to spray the house. In the mean time we are moving to my sister's house to sleep for the weekend(well-I have to ask her first :) ).
My mother's day celebration started on Friday morning at Olivia's preschool. They had a Mother's tea for us. It was very nice. When we arrived at the preschool the moms had a few minutes to look at the art work the kids made for each of their moms. The teachers helped each child write down some things they liked about their mom. Then the kids came in and sang 3 songs for us. (Below is the verson from school and her version at home when she was more excited about doing it. ) Earlier in the week all the kids made a gift for us. Olivia made me a picture frame and drew a picture of me for the inside of the frame. It was a great picture. I had red hair, but did not look pregnant in her drawing! She knows just how to make me happy!
Saturday I went up to San Fran to get my hair cut. When I came home Daniel was not there and neither was the stroller. So I went outside and sure enough I saw him up the street pushing the jog stroller with flowers and a balloon in one seat and Chloe in the other seat. It was so such a beautful sunny day and seeing him out with the kids made me smile. He also wrote me a sweet card.
Sunday I had to teach Gospel Doctrine, but the class liked the lesson and participated a lot. So that was great. As usual Daniel made Sunday dinner and the kids helped. I had a great weekend. (Besides the fact that we had to get the timing belt changed in the white whale and the bill was a lot more than the estimate given)
I took Sambo to his yearly allergy appointment on Monday. This time we are taking drastic measures to help him with his allergies. He is on 2 new medications and 2 creams. I will take him back in a month for a follow up visit. These allergies are a real problem for him. He is always scratching himself so he has all these scabs on his legs, writs, neck and face. Plus he is always sneezing. Poor kid!
Q- What do you get when you pay rent for a 1400 sq.ft. house in a million dollar neighborhood?
A- find the answer somewhere in the blog below!
We have been very busy since the end of April, but with a broken computer and camera blogging is a little harder!
Our whole family went mini golfing with some friends for Family Night. We had a great time!
It only took one hole for me to realize I was not going to be golfing, but I would be keeping track for Sam and Liv. They had about 5 friends they were trying to follow all at once, while throwing their golf balls into the different contraptions on the course. It took me about 5 more holes to realize I should put my golf club in Chloe's stroller and let Daniel worry about it! We had a great evening. -- picture will be added
The next evening we had the missionaries over for dinner. Then Daniel went on splits with them. It is always nice to hear them share a message and get the kids involved with them.
On May 1st I was part of a police investigation and solved my first crime! Around dinner time a police officer knocked on our door and asked to speak to me about our neighbors. Apparently their front door was open, the house was a wreck and no one was home. The officer wanted to know if I knew anything about the neighbors. So I said they had gone on a fishing trip to Mexico and that this time the wife had gone with the husband. (They are probably 70 years old) So that is why no one was home. The officer wanted to know if I was sure that the wife went b/c she does have a drinking problem and they wanted to be sure she was ok. I said I was sure she went to Mexico. I also informed the officer that Daniel and I had been into their house once and saying it was disaster area would be an understatement. I am pretty sure the health department would step in if there were more than this man and his wife living there. So I told the officer I did not think there was a break in, but that this was the normal state of their house. I confirmed that my neighbors had a son in Sunnyvale whom they could contact. So the officers were happy with my information and said I had solved the case!
On May 3rd, after our garage sale Daniel and I went out to dinner for my friendKaylene's birthday. Dinner was great, but dessert. . . .Ohh. . . I found my all time favorite dessert. It is a s'more in a cup! YUMMY!! Daniel and I had a lot of fun visiting with our friends and laughing.
answer to question at begining of post: You get mice and spider bites. We are rid of the mice, but since late January we have been attacked by spiders that leave horrible itchy bites that last for weeks.
I spent all last week getting ready for our city wide garage sale. This was my first garage sale EVER. I am pretty sure I have never even shopped at a garage sale. Andrea decided to put a bunch of things in our sale as well. At 8am we had a great looking spread of "junk", mostly baby clothes. Todd brought his laptop and we entered every sale into the spreadsheet. At the end of the day it was great to see what we sold. Todd's best selling item was from his huge collection of DVDs. I mostly sold baby clothes. My average sale was $2.73. I probable only sold 1/10 of the stuff we put out. I think next time (except I don't think there will be a next time!) I would sell 5 baby clothes for $2, or something like that instead of individually pricing the kids clothes. Just to get rid of more.
By the way for now our camera is broken and I can not get the pictures from the garage sale off the camera to let you see how impressive we looked. I will update you when I get some pictures!
